Prized by audiophiles and audio production engineers, Audio-Technica has developed and manufactured top quality audio electronics since 1962. Audio-Technica microphones and other audio gear are used by the US Congress, Grammy Awards, Super Bowl, World Cup soccer and many Olympic games.
The logo of this illustrious Japanese company features a triangle split by a single slanted line, creating a large and small triangle. These shapes can each be read as a stylized “A,” one inside the other, echoing the company’s first initial. Further, you could also interpret the upward-jutting triangles as stylized audio waves, as they might appear on an audio engineer’s oscilloscope.
Why it’s the Logo of the Day
The company’s products reflect clean design in the modern Japanese tradition, and the Audio-Technica logo and graphic symbol do, too. Lines forming the triangles and circular border all have the same width, or “weight,” adding to a classic look-and-feel. We also like that, as mentioned above, the triangle shapes have multiple relevant meanings, reflecting the brand’s mission and product category.
Key features of the Audio-Technica logo include:
- Classic, modern look-and-feel
- Multiple meanings that reflect the brand
- Simple one-color design
- Symbol is legible at small size, so can be used as a social media flashmark*
*A flashmark represents the brand in social media spaces when a full logo won’t fit
With some trepidation, we’d recommend one tweak to Audio-Technica’s famous symbol: thicken its lines ever so slightly. Give them a slightly heavier weight. Not overdoing it — just a very small increase. We think it could give the brand image a more contemporary feel and also help the graphic look even better when reduced to small size, such as on social media.
